A demanding loop from Bassano del Grappa over Monte Grappa, dropping into the quieter northern side before returning through the long, flowing Valbrenta valley.
Starting in Bassano del Grappa, this route heads straight for one of the Veneto’s defining cycling climbs: Monte Grappa. The road gradually leaves the lower foothills behind before the gradient becomes more serious, eventually reaching the high slopes of the mountain and the open terrain around the summit at more than 1,700 metres. The climb is the obvious centrepiece, but what makes this route especially rewarding is the change of scenery that follows. After crossing Monte Grappa, the character of the ride shifts completely. The high mountain landscape gives way to a long descent on the northern side, with the road eventually reaching the broad valley below. From here, the route turns back towards Bassano through the Valbrenta, a long corridor framed by steep mountain slopes. After the effort of Monte Grappa, this section feels like a natural counterpoint: much less about climbing and more about settling into a steady rhythm as the valley gradually carries you south. The return to Bassano makes the route feel like a proper mountain loop rather than simply an out-and-back climb. You get the full Monte Grappa experience—an extended ascent, a descent on the opposite side, and a long valley ride that reveals a very different side of the mountain landscape. At around 100 km, it is a substantial day in the saddle, best suited to riders comfortable with a serious Alpine-style climb and a long return ride.
