Why this route made the cut

Master four iconic mountain passes in the heart of the Dolomites. Steep ramps, legendary Giro d'Italia roads, and dramatic alpine scenery deliver an unforgettable high-altitude road ride.

Description

Carved directly into the jagged peaks of Northern Italy, this legendary loop tackles four celebrated mountain passes: Passo Giau, Passo Falzarego, Passo Fedaia, and Passo Pordoi. Starting from Arabba, the route wastes little time before pitching upward, demanding consistent power as you ascend into the high-alpine environment. The early test comes on Passo Giau, famous for its relentless gradient and panoramic alpine pastures. Descending toward Cortina d'Ampezzo leads straight into the long, sweeping curves of Passo Falzarego. Beyond the summit, the route drops down toward Caprile before taking on the fierce ramps of Passo Fedaia. The final section of Fedaia is notorious among road cyclists—a straight, uncompromising wall where gradients bite hard beneath the towering shadow of the Marmolada glacier. Once past the turquoise waters of Lago di Fedaia, a swift descent toward Canazei prepares you for the final challenge: the smooth switchbacks of Passo Pordoi. Climbing through twenty-eight hairpins on Pordoi offers a rhythmic cadence to finish the day's major climbing before sweeping back into Arabba. Built for experienced endurance cyclists seeking a true high-mountain challenge, this route showcases the raw grandeur of the Dolomites on world-class tarmac.
